Schneider Electric Unveils 3.5 MW Hybrid Cooling Unit for AI Data Centers

The new WCDU combines air and liquid cooling in one steel frame to help operators avoid wasting space in high-density facilities.
Key points
- Schneider Electric’s WCDU combines liquid and air cooling in a single steel frame unit.
- The device supports up to 3.5 MW of cooling capacity with hot swappable components.
- Shipping starts in October 2026, with US pre-orders available in early 2027.
Schneider Electric has launched the WCDU, a new coolant distribution unit for data centers. The device supports hybrid air and liquid cooling architectures. It is designed for high-density AI facilities that need flexible infrastructure.
The unit allows operators to adjust cooling balances without redesigning the hall. This helps prevent overbuilt infrastructure and stranded capacity. VMblog reports that the device fits into existing technical corridors.
Hybrid design reduces retrofit complexity
The WCDU integrates pumps and heat exchangers into a single steel frame. This all-in-one design simplifies installation and service access. It can work with fan walls or stand alone.
Operators can retrofit existing facilities more easily. The unit maintains zero lateral clearance for optimized density. This approach supports a wider range of cooling configurations.
High capacity and efficiency features
The device offers the largest cooling capacity in the Motivair line. It achieves up to 3.5 MW at specific flow rates. Up to 20 units can operate together in group mode.
The system supports warmer water temperatures for better energy efficiency. It includes hot swappable pumps and filters. These features help maintain cooling availability during maintenance.
Deployment timeline and market availability
Shipping begins in select regions in October 2026. Pre-orders open in the United States in early 2027. This completes a portfolio ranging from 105 kW to 3.5 MW.
