PECO Launches EV Resources for Pennsylvania Drivers

As September highlights clean energy, PECO is deploying new tools to help residents navigate the costs and benefits of switching to electric vehicles.
September is officially putting electric transportation under the microscope in the United States. PECO is leveraging the timing of National Drive Electric Month and National Clean Energy Week to reach customers in southeastern Pennsylvania with specific resources designed to simplify the transition to electric vehicles (EVs). The utility aims to make the process less intimidating by focusing on practical data rather than just environmental ideals.
The company is reinforcing its infrastructure to handle the increased demand from home charging while simultaneously expanding its own fleet of electrified vehicles. By aligning its operational goals with customer needs, PECO is attempting to bridge the gap between the current grid capabilities and the growing number of electric cars on the road.
Digital Toolkit Simplifies Vehicle Comparison
For consumers unsure where to start, PECO has introduced the EVsmart online toolkit. This platform allows users to compare fully electric vehicles against plug-in hybrids, helping them understand the differences in range, charging requirements, and daily driving costs. It also serves as a locator for public charging stations, addressing one of the most common concerns for prospective buyers.
According to GN auto tech/ev, the toolkit also provides a clear breakdown of potential environmental benefits. By presenting concrete data on emissions and energy usage, the tool helps drivers visualize the impact of their choice without relying on vague marketing language.
Financial Incentives Lower the Barrier
The upfront cost of an electric vehicle remains a significant hurdle for many households. To address this, PECO is highlighting available financial aids, including a specific $50 EV Driver Rebate for its customers. The company is also directing users toward federal and state tax credits that can significantly offset the purchase price.
Beyond the initial purchase, PECO promotes its Flex & Save program, which offers time-of-use rates to reduce the cost of at-home charging. This approach acknowledges that while the vehicle itself may be expensive, the ongoing cost of fuel can be managed through strategic charging schedules.
Corporate Fleet Shifts to Electric
PECO is also walking the talk in its own operations. As part of its Path to Clean initiative, the utility currently operates approximately 340 electrified vehicles. These include fully electric cars, hybrids, and vehicles equipped with plug-in idle-mitigation units that reduce emissions when trucks are parked.
This move supports a broader commitment by PECO and its parent company, Exelon, to cut operations-driven emissions by half by 2030. The goal is to reach net-zero emissions from their own operations by 2050, signaling a long-term shift in how utility companies manage their energy footprint.
