Apple claims record battery gains for new iPhone lineup

Apple asserts that the iPhone 18 Pro and the new foldable iPhone Duo mark the largest increase in battery endurance in the company's history, driven by new silicon and physical design changes.
Apple has launched its latest flagship devices, the iPhone 18 Pro and the first foldable iPhone Duo, with a primary focus on extended battery life. The company claims this generation represents the most significant jump in endurance to date, attributing the gains to a combination of new internal battery layouts, the efficiency of the A20 Pro chip, and software optimizations.
For standard users, this translates to longer periods between charges. While Apple provides specific metrics for video streaming, it has also introduced a new benchmark that accounts for a mix of real-world tasks such as messaging, gaming, and web browsing. This approach aims to reflect how most people actually use their phones, rather than relying solely on passive media consumption.
Modest gains in standard flagship models
The iPhone 18 Pro sees a ten percent improvement in video playback duration, rising from thirty hours on the previous model to thirty-three hours. The larger Pro Max variant offers a fourteen percent increase, extending from thirty-five hours to forty hours. According to 9to5Mac, these figures represent a steady evolution rather than a revolutionary change for straight-rectangle phones.
However, there is a trade-off for buyers in certain regions. Models equipped with a physical SIM card tray, which are common in international markets, lose two hours of streaming time compared to the eSIM-only versions sold in the United States. This physical design constraint slightly reduces the total energy available for the display and processor.
Foldable device trades space for screen size
The iPhone Duo introduces a dual-battery system to power two separate displays, including a large seven-inch inner screen. While this architecture allows for a significantly larger viewing area, it also increases power consumption. Apple claims twenty-six hours of video playback on the inner display, a figure that is roughly equivalent to the previous generation's standard Pro model.
Using the smaller outer display extends the claimed longevity to thirty-seven hours. This suggests that the foldable form factor does not automatically sacrifice endurance, but the overall battery performance is comparable to last year's top-tier non-foldable devices rather than surpassing them.
Real-world performance remains to be verified
These figures are based on manufacturer specifications and theoretical benchmarks. Actual performance will depend on usage patterns, signal strength, and software efficiency in daily scenarios. The iPhone 18 Pro is available for preorder now, while the iPhone Duo will not be available for purchase until late October.
Until independent testers have had sufficient time with the devices, these claims should be viewed as initial estimates. The gap between promotional statistics and user experience can vary, particularly for new hardware configurations like the dual-battery foldable design.
