Additionally, a brief five-minute top-up charge can provide around six hours of video playback, offering a quick solution for users with tight schedules. However, achieving these peak performance metrics is contingent on using the correct hardware, as generic chargers may not deliver the same results.

Specific hardware requirements for speed

Apple’s technical specifications for fast charging the iPhone 18 Pro mandate the use of a 60-watt USB Power Delivery 3.1-compatible power adapter that features an Adjustable Voltage Supply. Currently, the only readily available charger that meets these precise requirements is Apple’s dynamic 40-watt power adapter, which supports a maximum output of 60 watts. The inclusion of the Adjustable Voltage Supply feature is the critical differentiator that enables the faster charging speeds, distinguishing it from standard high-wattage chargers.

A key trade-off for consumers is that Apple no longer includes power adapters with its smartphones, providing only a USB-C cable in the box. Wireless charging options also see improvements, with the iPhone 18 Pro capable of reaching 50% charge in about 30 minutes when used with an Apple MagSafe Charger and a 35-watt power brick. As the device goes up for preorder and ships in September, users should be aware that the speed of charging is directly tied to the quality and specifications of the accessory used, rather than just the phone's internal hardware.

The same faster charging speeds available on the iPhone 18 Pro will also apply to the upcoming foldable iPhone Duo, provided users have the correct accessories. This consistency across Apple’s new lineup suggests a standardized approach to power delivery for its next generation of devices. Users who invest in the specific dynamic power adapter now will be prepared for both the standard Pro model and the foldable variant, ensuring they get the most efficient charging experience possible from either device.
