iPhone 18 Pro Max Breaks Charging Records

Apple’s new flagship phone charges significantly faster than its predecessor, though Samsung’s top model still holds the speed advantage in total time.

Apple has finally addressed one of the most persistent complaints about its smartphones: slow charging speeds. According to new data shared on X and analyzed by GSMArena, the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max is the fastest-charging iPhone ever released. The device reaches a 50% battery level in just 15 minutes, a significant leap from previous models that took considerably longer to achieve the same result.

This improvement comes from a combination of a larger battery and a more efficient 2-nanometer chip. While the phone hits the 50% mark quickly, it takes 55 minutes to display a full 100% charge, with the charging process physically stopping after 76 minutes. This is a clear upgrade over the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which took 72 minutes to display a full charge but did not reach 50% as quickly.

Faster power with higher efficiency

The technical shift behind this speed is substantial. The iPhone 18 Pro Max can draw up to 52 watts of power, compared to the 35-watt peak of its predecessor. This increase allows the phone to absorb energy much more rapidly during the initial phase of charging. For users who need to top up their device during a short break, this means significantly more usable battery life in less time.

However, the trade-off involves the total time required for a complete charge. Because the iPhone 18 Pro Max features a larger battery than its predecessor, the final stretch of charging takes longer. While the initial boost is impressive, users should not expect the phone to reach a full 100% state in under 30 minutes.

Samsung still leads full charge

Despite Apple’s progress, the iPhone does not yet lead the market in overall charging speed. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra, for example, reaches 51% in 15 minutes but displays a full 100% charge in just 43 minutes. The reason for this discrepancy is simple: the Galaxy S26 Ultra has a smaller battery. Apple is charging more total energy, which takes more time, even if the initial rate is higher.

For consumers choosing between these two flagships, the decision depends on priority. If quick top-ups are the main concern, the iPhone 18 Pro Max offers a competitive 15-minute 50% charge. If the goal is to go from empty to full as quickly as possible, the Samsung device remains the faster option due to its smaller capacity.

A long-awaited priority shift

This development marks a notable change in Apple’s approach to battery management. For years, the company has lagged behind Android competitors in charging speed, often prioritizing battery longevity over rapid replenishment. By doubling the peak power draw, Apple is signaling that it is taking user convenience seriously in this area.

The move is not surprising given the hardware upgrades, but it is welcome. As mobile phones become more central to daily life, the ability to quickly restore battery power is a practical necessity. Apple’s latest model finally brings its charging capabilities closer to the standard set by its competitors, offering users a more flexible and convenient experience.
