A new home system aims to fix the fragmentation of smart devices by combining storage, security, and voice control into a single local unit.
Modern homes are often filled with intelligent gadgets that do not talk to each other. Cameras, lights, and speakers operate in separate silos, forcing users to switch between multiple applications to manage their environment. UGREEN is launching a device called HomeAgent to solve this fragmentation by acting as a central brain for the household.
The system is not just another hub. It combines a network-attached storage unit with artificial intelligence and security features. According to GN technics/smarthome, this approach allows data to be processed locally rather than relying entirely on cloud services, which can improve privacy and response times.
Local Processing Reduces Cloud Dependence
HomeAgent runs on UGOS Pro, an operating system built on Linux. This foundation provides professional-grade storage management and data security. By keeping files, photos, and surveillance footage on the device, the system can analyze them without sending sensitive information to external servers.
This local architecture allows the device to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. It can store household data, coordinate compatible smart home devices, and run AI models for video analysis. The trade-off is that users must invest in a more complex hardware setup compared to buying individual standalone gadgets.
Turning Footage into Searchable Memories
One of the key features is the ability to turn raw video into usable information. Using local AI, the system can recognize people, pets, and packages. It can also detect specific events, such as a baby crying or an unfamiliar person entering the property, and generate alerts accordingly.
The same technology serves a creative purpose. The AI Highlights feature scans long-term family footage to identify meaningful moments. It automatically creates highlight videos that can be displayed on smart frames. This turns security recordings into a personal archive of memories, such as birthday dinners or music practice sessions.
Voice Control Simplifies Daily Tasks
Interaction with the system is handled through a voice assistant named Uliya. Users can speak naturally to control devices, check camera status, or retrieve information. This reduces the need to navigate through complex menus or open separate applications for different tasks.
The device supports standards like Matter and ONVIF, which allows it to integrate with third-party hardware. While this broadens compatibility, it also means the system depends on supported devices working together smoothly. The goal is to create a cohesive home environment where the user interacts with the whole system rather than individual components.
