Intel-backed tool promises automatic performance boosts for gamers

A new software tool developed with Intel aims to simplify computer tuning by automatically adjusting settings to improve frame rates, though results vary significantly by hardware.
Hypertune, a new auto-overclocking tool built in partnership with Intel, has launched its Gaming Performance Engineering platform. The software claims it can increase frame rates by up to 60% on Intel-based systems by automatically tuning CPU and GPU settings. However, this headline figure represents the best-case scenario rather than a typical outcome, and users should not expect such dramatic gains on their specific machines.
The tool is designed for users who may not understand advanced hardware settings. It works by evaluating each individual system before applying optimizations, rather than using generalized profiles that may not fit every configuration. According to reports from GN technics/hardware, the software includes features for automated overclocking, network optimization, and game-specific tweaks, all built on top of Intel’s Extreme Tuning Utility SDK.
Testing reveals modest real-world gains
Internal benchmarks shared by Hypertune show more realistic performance improvements. On a system with a Core Ultra 9 285K processor and an RTX 5090 graphics card, the tool achieved an 18.9% improvement in Homeworld 3 and a 28.2% boost in Tomb Raider. On an older system with a Core i7-14700K and an RTX 3080, the gains were smaller, ranging from 4.3% to 9.8% depending on the game.
These results are measured without the tool’s Game Hub feature, which automatically changes in-game graphics settings. When Game Hub is enabled, performance jumps appear larger, but this is largely because the software is simply lowering visual quality to achieve higher frame rates. Manually adjusting settings in the game’s menu would produce similar results, meaning the core benefit lies in the automatic hardware tuning rather than just graphics presets.
Targeting casual users over enthusiasts
Hypertune founder Austin Copeland stated that the tool is not intended for seasoned overclockers. Instead, it aims to help average users who might miss simple optimizations, such as setting the correct power plan or enabling specific graphics features. The software is built to be non-destructive and fully reversible, allowing users to undo any changes if they encounter stability issues or prefer their original settings.
The partnership with Intel and the involvement of well-known overclocker Pieter Plaisier in refining the software suggest a focus on reliability. However, the effectiveness of such tools depends heavily on the specific hardware and game. While some titles and newer processors benefit significantly from CPU tuning, others see little to no improvement. Users should approach the 60% claim with caution, as it is not a standard expectation for most systems.
