Stardock's Snipboard Adds Search and Local Sync to Windows Clipboard

Stardock's new tool fixes Windows clipboard flaws like missing search and data loss on reboot. It also enables local syncing between PCs without cloud servers.
Key points
- Snipboard retains clipboard items after a computer reboot, unlike the default Windows feature.
- The app adds a search function to quickly find previously copied text or files.
- It syncs data across up to five devices using the local network, avoiding cloud servers.
Stardock released Snipboard, a new app that replaces the standard Windows clipboard. It addresses long-standing complaints about speed and missing features in the built-in system tool.
The software keeps copied items safe after a computer restart. It also allows users to find specific text or files quickly using a search function that Windows lacks.
Improved speed and persistent storage
Windows 10 introduced clipboard history, but the feature has not evolved much. Many users find the interface slow and the storage unreliable. Items often disappear after a reboot unless they are manually pinned.
Snipboard changes this by storing items until a user-set timer or storage limit is reached. This means your copied data remains available even after turning off your computer. The interface opens instantly using the Windows and V keys.
Users can navigate the list with arrow keys or number shortcuts. You can also paste text as plain text or change its case using only the keyboard.
Search function and file support
One of the biggest improvements is the ability to search through your copied items. You can type directly to filter the list. This helps find old text or data without scrolling through hundreds of entries.
The app also handles files and folders, not just text and images. These items persist across reboots as well. This allows users to move files between projects easily without saving them to a specific folder first.
Local syncing without cloud dependence
Snipboard can sync clipboard items across multiple computers. Unlike Microsoft's solution, it does not use cloud servers. Data stays within your home network, which can be faster and more private.
You link devices using a code. The current version is part of Object Desktop, which supports up to five devices. Users can choose to download items automatically or only when needed. This is useful for moving large files between PCs.
