Meta announced its new VR Glasses and Muse Charm device at its Connect event on September 23rd. The glasses weigh only 100 grams and feature a separate computing unit. The company also introduced new screen-free smart glasses for users.
Lighter hardware changes the experience
The new VR Glasses sit on the ears like standard eyewear. They connect to a small computing puck that stays in your pocket. This design removes the heavy head straps found on previous headsets.
At 100 grams, the device is significantly lighter than the Quest 3, which weighs 515 grams. Reviewers noted the form factor feels less like a bulky commitment. It allows users to jump in and out of virtual reality more easily.
New AI gadget requires no phone
Meta also revealed the Muse Charm, a dedicated hardware device for its AI agent. It resembles a chunky smartwatch without a strap and uses a lanyard for carrying. A fingerprint sensor on the top right activates the voice assistant.
Users do not need to unlock a phone or open an app to use the device. However, Meta did not explain how the gadget connects to its servers. The device includes a small camera and at least three microphones on the front.
Movie library expands in spring
Meta promises that hundreds of movies will be available in the US later this year. Thousands of titles will be available internationally when the new glasses launch in spring 2027. This expands the entertainment options for the new hardware.
