The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) announced Tuesday that it is planning to dismiss a correctional officer following her arrest in Mexico. Yanet Dowden was taken into custody on Friday by Mexican authorities near the border city of San Luis, where officials stated she was in possession of 5,445 rounds of ammunition. The agency confirmed that Dowden is a Level II correctional officer and that Mexican police identified her with their ID card at the time of her detention.

According to Mexican officials, Dowden was identified as a logistics operator for the "Los Mayos" faction of the Sinaloa Cartel. The seizure of the ammunition was valued by the Mexican government at approximately 1.6 million pesos, roughly equivalent to $96,500. ADCRR stated that it is conducting a thorough review of the incident and is cooperating with relevant law enforcement agencies to support the ongoing investigation.
