QWP Leader Urges Strategic Shift in Counter-Terrorism Approach

Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, chairman of the Qaumi Watan Party, has called for a fundamental reevaluation of security strategies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Speaking from Peshawar, the political leader expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation, arguing that current administrative responses are insufficient to address the evolving nature of threats in the region.

According to statements reported by GN auto geopolitics/terrorism: counter terrorism, Sherpao highlighted a perceived lack of coherent planning by both federal and provincial authorities. He emphasized that while diplomatic efforts have bolstered the country's international standing, internal security remains a critical gap that requires immediate and methodical attention.

Rising Incident Rates in the Province

The QWP chairman cited specific figures to illustrate the severity of the situation, noting a substantial increase in violent incidents compared to the previous year. He stated that over 600 terror-related events have been recorded in the province so far this year, a figure he described as representing a surge of approximately 65 percent.

Sherpao further detailed the human cost of this escalation, pointing out that nearly 200 police personnel have lost their lives in these attacks. He characterized the frequency of these events as alarming, suggesting that the current pace of violence translates to roughly two attacks per day, placing immense strain on local law enforcement resources.

Critique of Current Government Priorities

The political leader criticized the PTI-led provincial administration for what he described as a misplaced focus on political mobilization and street movements. He argued that this emphasis on public gatherings and the release of jailed party members has caused critical security issues to be neglected, leaving the province vulnerable to continued instability.

Sherpao maintained that while the federal government has successfully positioned itself as a mediator in international disputes, this diplomatic success has not translated into tangible improvements in domestic security. He urged the provincial government to assume primary responsibility for restoring public confidence by prioritizing rule of law over political maneuvering.

Call for Analytical Security Methods

Rather than relying on reactive statements, Sherpao advocated for the adoption of scientific methods to understand and counter terrorist tactics. He argued that law enforcement agencies must move beyond simple reporting and instead analyze attack patterns to identify underlying trends and vulnerabilities.

The QWP chairman indicated that he would soon send letters to key state institutions, including the presidency, prime ministry, and military leadership, to draw their attention to the urgency of the situation. His central argument is that a clear, analytical strategy is essential to curb the subversion tactics employed by extremist groups in the Hindu Kush region.
