Odesa strikes target port and shipping
Oleh Kiper, the governor of Odesa Oblast, confirmed that Russian forces targeted a commercial cargo ship flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda. The strike ignited a fire on the vessel, resulting in the death of the ship’s captain, a Ukrainian citizen, while the rest of the crew was successfully evacuated.
In addition to the maritime strike, warehouses storing medicines, household goods, and food in the same region were attacked twice in succession. Emergency services reported that it took several hours to extinguish the resulting fires, highlighting the sustained pressure on southern logistics and supply chains.
Regional casualties spread across Ukraine
Significant casualties were also reported in eastern and northeastern regions. Vadym Filashkin, the governor of Donetsk Oblast, said four people were killed and ten injured in attacks across his region. In Kharkiv Oblast, Oleh Syniehubov reported one death and thirteen injuries, while Oleksandr Prokudin in Kherson Oblast confirmed two deaths and eight injuries.
Attacks also reached Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast, where Tymur Tkachenko, head of the regional administration, stated that eighteen facilities were damaged and three people were injured, including a 76-year-old man. In Zaporizhzhia, a shopping mall was hit, injuring two people, while a separate strike in the rural settlement of Kushuhum killed one resident.
Warning of upcoming mass attack
President Zelensky warned that Russia is preparing a new large-scale strike against Ukraine, citing intelligence gathered after a meeting with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. He did not provide specific details on the timing or nature of the expected offensive but emphasized the urgent need for enhanced air defense support.
This warning follows Zelensky’s earlier statement that Ukraine is prepared to agree to a total halt on energy attacks as part of a US-brokered ceasefire, provided Russia agrees to the same terms.
