According to the Kyiv Independent, the report details extensive material losses for Moscow, listing thousands of tanks, armored vehicles, and artillery systems destroyed or captured. While these numbers are self-reported by the Ukrainian side, they align with broader assessments from independent Western analysts who have consistently noted a significant disparity in casualty ratios between the two belligerents.

Western estimates corroborate attrition gap

Independent analysis from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) suggests that Russian casualties significantly exceed those of Ukraine. A recent CSIS report estimated the ratio to be roughly 2.5 to 1, or possibly 2 to 1, in favor of Russian losses. This perspective provides external context to the Ukrainian General Staff's daily updates, lending credibility to the claim that Moscow is bearing a heavier burden in human and material terms.

Ukrainian officials have generally avoided disclosing precise figures for their own losses, citing operational secrecy and the need to protect sensitive military information. However, President Volodymyr Zelensky provided a specific benchmark in February, stating that at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in action since the war began. He noted that many more are missing in action, a number that complicates official accounting and verification efforts.
