Governments and defense firms are rapidly expanding capabilities to protect critical underwater infrastructure, driven by concerns over hybrid warfare and the vulnerability of global connectivity cables.
A significant strategic shift is underway as nations and corporations prioritize the defense of underwater infrastructure. The urgency of this transition is underscored by recent incidents, including the 2022 destruction of the Nord Stream pipelines. Smaller firms like Germany’s Euroatlas are developing specialized autonomous underwater vehicles, such as the GrayShark, designed for independent mission execution. This proliferation of technology indicates a competitive market forming around the protection of the seabed, with companies seeking to offer integrated solutions for monitoring and defense.
