UN Chief Volker Turk has urged for international evidence preservation as new body recoveries in Gaza intensify calls for accountability, with the UN reporting that Israeli restrictions on excavation equipment are forcing teams to search for the estimated 8,000 missing beneath the rubble by hand.

  • According to GN geopolitics/rights (en-US), Ajith Sunghay from the UN rights office for the Occupied Palestinian Territory reported that Israeli restrictions on DNA kits and excavators are severely hampering recovery efforts, forcing teams to dig with bare hands. He warned that the 630 bodies recovered since November represent only a fraction of the over 8,000 victims still buried under the debris.
