Local bullion prices surged Wednesday as the Federal Reserve hiked its benchmark rate.

Gold prices in Pakistan rose by 7,900 rupees per tola on Wednesday. The new rate stands at 457,236 rupees per tola. This sharp increase follows a 4,000 rupee drop recorded on Tuesday. The local market adjusted to reflect global trends in bullion trading.

Spot gold climbed 1.4 percent to 4,350.48 US dollars per ounce. The price had hit a one-month low on Monday before reversing. US gold futures for December delivery also rose 1.4 percent to 4,393.40 dollars. Traders positioned their holdings ahead of the central bank announcement.

Federal Reserve hikes benchmark rate

The Federal Reserve increased its benchmark overnight interest rate by 25 basis points. The new range is 3.75 percent to 4.00 percent. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh joined the unanimous decision. The move signals a commitment to further increases in coming months.

Market participants saw a 93 percent chance of a rate hike before the decision. The central bank cited persistent inflation pressures. These pressures stem from import tariffs and energy shocks. The decision effectively acknowledges ongoing price stability challenges.

Local silver and rupee movements

Silver prices in Pakistan increased by 140 rupees per tola. The metal reached a value of 6,942 rupees per tola. In the inter-bank market, the Pakistani rupee appreciated slightly. It closed at 277.27 against the US dollar, up three paisa from Tuesday.

Global market drivers for bullion

Lower US Treasury yields supported the rally in gold. Reduced yields lower the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets. Oil prices also declined during the session. These factors combined with safe-haven demand to lift international prices.

Data from GN auto markets commodities shows strong volatility in precious metals. The shift in monetary policy directly impacts currency values. Investors are monitoring the ripple effects on global trade. The alignment of local and international prices indicates synchronized market behavior.
