Deutsche Bank Launches Institutional Crypto Custody

Deutsche Bank plans to launch institutional custody services for Bitcoin, Ether, and stablecoins in Europe this year, bridging the gap between traditional banking and digital assets.
Deutsche Bank will launch institutional custody services for digital assets in Europe later this year. The bank aims to provide a regulated route for corporate and institutional clients to access crypto markets.
The service will support Bitcoin, Ether, USDC, EURC, and EURAU. Clients will not need to build their own infrastructure as the bank handles private key storage and wallet control.
Regulatory approval pending for launch
Regulatory approval remains a final step before the service goes live. The initial asset list is limited to major cryptocurrencies and stablecoins. Tokenized financial instruments are planned for a later phase of expansion.
Institutional demand drives custody growth
A 2026 Coinbase-EY survey indicates that 73% of decision-makers plan to increase digital asset allocations. Among these respondents, 81% prefer spot exposure through registered vehicles like ETFs and ETPs. This creates strong demand for regulated custody solutions.
Few major banks currently act as custodians in the European market. Deutsche Bank targets asset managers, hedge funds, and sovereign institutions. This positions the bank to connect crypto holdings with existing banking relationships.
Stablecoins enable recurring settlement flows
USDC has approximately 74 billion dollars in circulation. This volume demonstrates deep existing demand for stablecoin usage. EURC provides a euro-denominated option within the same custody framework.
Recurring transfers for treasury and cross-border payments can generate continuous activity. This shifts the service from simple storage to an active financial rail. Digital asset integration may expand these settlement flows further.
