ABN AMRO Clearing Tokyo joins the Tokyo Commodity Exchange as its 12th broker member, effective September 30, 2026.

ABN AMRO Clearing Tokyo Co., Ltd. has secured Broker Trading Participant status at the Tokyo Commodity Exchange. The approval was granted on September 14, 2026. The qualification takes effect on September 30, 2026.

Upon activation, the firm becomes TOCOM’s 12th Broker Member. It also becomes the 13th Energy Futures Clearing Participant at Japan Securities Clearing Corporation. The mandate covers brokerage and clearing for electricity and other energy futures.

First Foreign Affiliate Since 2019

ABN AMRO is the first broker linked to an overseas global financial group to receive this status. This distinction follows the 2019 merger of TOCOM with Japan Exchange Group, Inc. The entry expands the pool of international intermediaries on the exchange.

Energy Market Liberalization Drives Demand

TOCOM has expanded its electricity futures offerings in recent years. Japan’s energy markets continue to liberalize. Demand for tools to hedge power price volatility is rising. Adding a broker with international reach aims to attract overseas interest. Greater liquidity in TOCOM’s energy contracts is the expected result.

Dual Role in Clearing and Brokerage

Japan Securities Clearing Corporation awarded the Energy Futures Clearing Qualification simultaneously. The firm will offer a complete suite of services. This includes both brokerage execution and clearing for energy products. The dual role simplifies the workflow for clients trading on TOCOM. This integration supports the growing complexity of Japan's power trading landscape, as noted by GN markets/commodities (en-US).
