Florida Gas Prices Cross Four Dollar Mark Amid Diesel Spike

Florida drivers face gasoline costs above $4.14 and diesel exceeding $6.31, driven by renewed Middle East tensions and supply chain pressures.
The average price for a gallon of gasoline in Florida reached $4.14 on Monday. This figure is 23 cents higher than the price recorded a week earlier. Diesel fuel surged to $6.31 per gallon in the state. This marks the first time diesel has exceeded the $6 threshold in Florida.
National averages also rose during the same period. The average diesel price across the United States hit $6.23 on Monday. Gasoline averaged $4.32 nationally, an increase of 17 cents from the previous week. These figures reflect a broader upward trend in fuel costs.
Middle East Tensions Drive Up Costs
Renewed conflict in the Middle East has intensified global oil markets. AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins stated that these tensions caused oil prices to surge. Higher crude costs directly increase the price of producing gasoline. Florida drivers are now seeing these higher production costs at the pump. If oil prices remain elevated, further increases are likely this week.
Patrick De Haan of GasBuddy noted a significant rise in consumer spending. Since March 1, Americans have spent over $100 billion more on fuel than in the same period last year. On Saturday alone, the extra cost was estimated at $730 million. This includes $418 million more on gasoline and $310 million more on diesel.
Regional Price Variations Across State
Prices vary significantly across Florida’s 67 counties. Only seven counties in the Panhandle region averaged less than $4.00. Escambia and Bay counties reported the lowest average at $3.95. Monroe County in South Florida recorded the highest average at $4.35. Areas in the Big Bend region also exceeded $4.20 per gallon.
A year ago, the cost of fuel was substantially lower. The average gallon of diesel in Florida sold for $3.55. Gasoline was priced at $2.95 per gallon during the same period last year. The current spike represents a sharp deviation from previous price levels.
Electric Charging Costs Remain Stable
Electric vehicle owners face different pricing dynamics. The average cost for one kilowatt-hour at Florida charging stations was 41 cents on Sunday. This rate has remained mostly unchanged since early March. Unlike fuel prices, electric charging costs have not shown similar volatility.
