The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose for the 32nd straight day. The price reached $6.184 on Saturday. This is the highest amount recorded since May 22. The daily increase was 1.9 cents. Data comes from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The average price has climbed 54.2 cents over the last 32 days. It is 16.3 cents higher than one week ago. The price is 53.8 cents above the level from one month ago. It stands $1.452 higher than one year ago. The surge accelerated after the U.S. and Israel began military operations against Iran on February 28.
Orange County Mirrors Regional Spike
Orange County saw a similar trend. The average price rose for the 32nd consecutive day. It increased by 1.8 cents to reach $6.16. This is also the highest level since May 22. The price has gained 58.5 cents over the past month.
The Orange County average is 16.2 cents more than a week ago. It is 57.7 cents higher than a month ago. The price is $1.452 above the level from a year ago. The total increase since the start of the conflict with Iran is $1.524.
National Averages Reflect Supply Concerns
The national average price rose for the 19th time in 20 days. It increased by seven-tenths of a cent to $4.475. The price has risen 39.8 cents over the last 20 days. It is 16.5 cents higher than one week ago. The national average is $1.276 higher than one year ago.
Kandace Redd of the Automobile Club of Southern California noted Middle East supply impacts. California imports significant oil from the region. She stated that oil prices must drop significantly to affect local pump prices. Patrick De Haan of GasBuddy called this the highest national price this late in the year.
Geopolitical Tensions Drive Cost Increases
The price hikes align with the start of the war on Iran. The conflict began on February 28. Oil prices moved higher immediately. This drastically accelerated increases at the gas pump. The national average has increased $1.493 since the attack. The regional increases in California are slightly higher due to import dependency.
