Nifty IT Rises 2.19% as AI Fears Recede

The Nifty IT index closed up 2.19%, outperforming the broader market which fell 1.19%. This marked the best-performing sectoral index of the session.
The Nifty IT index finished the session up 2.19%, making it the top-performing sectoral index. The broader Nifty 50 index closed 1.19% lower in contrast. Intraday, the IT sector rallied nearly 5% before paring gains. This performance marks a shift from recent underperformance driven by AI disruption concerns.
HCL Tech led the advance with a 4% increase. Infosys followed with a 3.7% gain. Mphasis rose 3.6%, while Tata Consultancy Services added 2.2%. These moves indicate a broad-based recovery within the sector. Investors appear to be easing their stance on long-term demand for traditional IT services.
AI Shifting From Threat To Opportunity
Market participants now view artificial intelligence as a source of new demand. Consulting, cloud, and data services are seeing increased interest. Indian IT firms are positioned to leverage their global client relationships. Scale and domain expertise are cited as key advantages in this new landscape.
Concerns that AI tools would replace traditional outsourcing have diminished. Companies are using this period to reposition their portfolios. The focus is on monetizing emerging opportunities in application modernization. This transition aims to stabilize earnings and support sustainable growth.
Technical Signals Remain Cautious
Analysts note that price action does not yet confirm a full reversal. The index faced resistance near its 200-day moving average in late July. It subsequently broke below the 31,955-29,820 range. The recent candle formed with a noticeable upper wick, indicating selling pressure at higher levels.
The index continues to trade below key moving averages. The MACD indicator remains below the zero line. Momentum has not turned decisively positive according to SBI Securities. Technical structures suggest that the upward move requires further confirmation.
Sector Outlook Depends On Adoption Pace
Responsible AI deployment may slow the rate of adoption. This provides a window for firms to adjust strategies. The key metric is the shift from uncertainty to earnings recovery. GN auto markets/indices data shows this sector leading the daily gain. The sustainability of this rebound will depend on client spending patterns.
