LSU women’s golf finished fifth at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Wolcott, Colorado, Wednesday. The team shot 31-under par over 54 holes, a total of 833. It was the fifth time in school history they broke 30-under in a tournament.
The Tigers posted 17-under par on the final day. That 271 score was the second-lowest single round in program history. It also marked the second straight day they shot the lowest team score in a 20-team field.
Knaub and Denton shine individually
Ryleigh Knaub tied for third overall with a 12-under par 204. Her final round of 7-under par 65 was her best career score. She birdied seven holes and made an eagle on the 12th.
Raegan Denton tied for fifth at 11-under par 205. The Australian freshman posted three rounds in the 60s. She became the eighth LSU player to achieve that feat on a par-72 course.
Team performance drives historic total
LSU’s 833 total ties for the third-lowest 54-hole score in school history. The team posted five under-par rounds and one even-par round. This marked the second time in program history with four qualifying scores in the 60s in one round.
Junior Rocio Tejedo shot a 69 with eight birdies. Freshman Victoria Kristensen rebounded with a 68 in the final round. Lucia Iraola finished T31 as an individual with a 3-under par 213.
Standings and upcoming schedule
Southern California won the team title with a 47-under par 817. Miami finished second at 33-under par 831. LSU placed fifth, ten shots ahead of Eastern Michigan in sixth.
The Tigers will next compete on October 12. They will debut at the Haskins Intercollegiate in Columbus, Georgia. The team continues its strong season following this Colorado victory.
