RWE has secured two strategic agreements with UAE entities, targeting over €3 billion in German offshore wind investment and long-term LNG supplies to diversify its global energy portfolio.

RWE has formalized two distinct commercial frameworks with United Arab Emirates-based energy firms during a state visit to Germany. The first agreement is a Memorandum of Understanding with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) to explore joint participation in upcoming German offshore wind auctions. The second is a Letter of Intent with ADNOC regarding potential long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales to European and Asian markets.

These moves expand RWE’s operational footprint in both renewable generation and fossil fuel supply diversification. The offshore wind collaboration targets the 2027 auction rounds, while the LNG discussions aim to secure delivery streams from ADNOC’s expanding global production assets. Both agreements are designed to strengthen Germany’s energy security and support RWE’s decarbonization roadmap.

Offshore Wind Investment Targets 2027 Auctions

The MoU with Masdar focuses on a potential joint bid for German offshore wind capacity, with an indicative investment value exceeding €3 billion. This proposal builds upon the partners’ existing operational relationship in the United Kingdom, where they jointly manage projects with a combined capacity of 3.6 GW. Notably, the London Array and the Dogger Bank South projects underpin this track record.

RWE CEO Markus Krebber stated that these partnerships are critical for unlocking Germany’s offshore wind potential and ensuring energy security. Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi emphasized that the company’s European experience will facilitate its entry into the German market. The agreement is currently at the exploration stage, pending the outcome of the 2027 government auctions.

LNG Supply Agreements Target 2030s Deliveries

Separately, RWE Supply & Trading and ADNOC have signed a Letter of Intent to structure up to two long-term LNG sale and purchase agreements. These contracts would facilitate deliveries to Germany, other European markets, and Asia, with supply expected to originate from ADNOC Gas and XRG projects in Ruwais, Rio Grande, Mozambique, and Argentina.

Deliveries are projected to commence in the early 2030s, contingent on the finalization of definitive commercial terms. This initiative builds on a Strategic Collaboration Agreement signed between the two corporations in February. RWE indicated that these arrangements will diversify its global LNG portfolio and bolster supply security in Europe.

Broader UAE-Germany Energy Cooperation

The agreements were announced alongside broader diplomatic efforts to enhance industrial and energy ties between the two nations. UAE Minister of Industry Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber noted that these deals reflect a deepening partnership in clean energy and industrial development. The UAE has also signaled plans for an additional €40 billion investment in Germany, underscoring the scale of the bilateral economic relationship.

According to reporting from GN auto stocks/energy-stocks: renewable energy stocks, RWE will continue developing commercial frameworks with both Masdar and ADNOC. The company aims to integrate these new opportunities into its long-term strategy, balancing renewable expansion with secure conventional fuel supplies to navigate Europe’s energy transition.
