Manipal Payment and Identity Solutions opened trading at a discount to its issue price, reflecting tepid institutional interest despite strong retail subscription for the secure card manufacturing firm.

Manipal Payment and Identity Solutions began trading on the NSE and BSE on Thursday at a discount to its initial public offering price. The stock listed at ₹330 on the NSE, a 2.6 percent drop from the ₹339 issue price, and at ₹332 on the BSE, representing a 2.06 percent discount. This opening price was largely consistent with pre-listing market sentiment, where the grey market premium had indicated a similar valuation gap.

The company’s IPO received a mixed response during the three-day bidding period from September 9 to 11. According to NSE data, the offer was subscribed 1.42 times overall, with bids for 18.51 million shares against a total of 13.06 million shares offered. While the retail segment showed the strongest interest with 2.19 times subscription, institutional participation was softer, with the qualified institutional buyer segment at 1.26 times and the non-institutional investor segment at 1.22 times.

Capital allocation targets infrastructure expansion

The offer structure included a fresh issue of INR 320 crore and an Offer for Sale of INR 485 crore by existing shareholders. Manipal Payment intends to deploy the fresh issue proceeds primarily toward capital expenditure for purchasing and installing new and second-hand equipment. This investment is directed at expanding card manufacturing facilities, personalization bureaus, cheque printing units, and central card processing centers, as reported by GN stocks/ipo.

The company plans to utilize additional funds for general corporate purposes and to support its Smart Tagging and IoT Solutions facility. As an integrated provider of digital identity and payment solutions, the firm focuses on the secure manufacturing and processing of payment cards, identity documents, and cheque-related products for banks and financial institutions.

Market outlook driven by digital adoption

Ventura, in its IPO note, highlighted that the company is positioned to benefit from increasing digital payment adoption and financial inclusion initiatives. The firm also expects to gain from the rising demand for secure authentication solutions and the growing trend of banks outsourcing their payment infrastructure. This strategic positioning aligns with the broader expansion of India’s digital payments and identity infrastructure ecosystem.
