Schwab, Truist, and Wells Fargo Face Positive Analyst Outlooks

Three major US financial institutions received reaffirmed Buy ratings from prominent investment banks this week, with price targets suggesting double-digit upside from current market levels.
Charles Schwab, Truist Financial, and Wells Fargo have all seen their Buy ratings maintained by major brokerage firms in recent trading sessions. According to data tracked by GN stocks/banks, these firms closed their most recent Tuesday trading with share prices of $107.79, $50.46, and $89.72, respectively. The fresh endorsements from Goldman Sachs, Truist’s internal research arm, and William Blair indicate continued confidence in the sector’s earnings resilience.
The broader analyst community maintains a Strong Buy consensus for Charles Schwab, with an average price target of $124.73. This figure implies a potential 16.6% increase from the current closing price. For Truist Financial, the consensus rating is a Hold, with an average target of $55.43, pointing to a 10.4% upside. Wells Fargo holds a Moderate Buy consensus, with an average target of $100.68, representing an 11.2% gain over recent levels.
Schwab Attracts Sustained Buy Recommendations
David Smith, a CFA charterholder at Truist Financial, maintained a Buy rating on Charles Schwab shares in a recent report. William Blair also issued a note affirming its Buy stance on the brokerage firm. The current share price of $107.79 sits significantly below the street’s average target of $124.73. This valuation gap suggests that analysts expect Schwab to continue expanding its client assets or improving its fee income relative to its current market capitalization.
Truist Sees Upside Amid Mixed Consensus
Ryan Nash of Goldman Sachs kept his Buy rating on Truist Financial, setting a specific price target of $59.00. This target is 17% higher than the stock’s closing price of $50.46. While the overall market consensus remains a Hold, with an average target of $55.43, individual bulls like Nash and RBC Capital are more optimistic. RBC Capital also maintained a Buy rating with a $53.00 target, indicating a belief in the bank’s loan growth and net interest margin improvements.
Wells Fargo Target Exceeds Market Consensus
Richard Ramsden at Goldman Sachs maintained a Buy rating on Wells Fargo with a price target of $107.00. This is well above the stock’s recent close of $89.72. Barclays also joined the bullish camp, issuing a Buy rating with a target of $108.00. These individual targets exceed the Moderate Buy consensus average of $100.68. The divergence suggests that top-tier analysts see greater potential in Wells Fargo’s cost-cutting initiatives and asset quality recovery than the broader analyst pool currently reflects.
