Shopify Posts 34% Revenue Growth Amid Mixed Analyst Sentiment

Shopify reported Q2 2026 revenue of $3.6 billion, up 33.69% year-over-year, while Bernstein raised its price target to $160 citing AI-driven market expansion.
Shopify reported second-quarter revenue of $3.6 billion for 2026, marking a 33.69% increase from the same period in the prior year. The e-commerce platform’s financial performance has drawn attention from institutional investors and analysts alike, with recent filings showing significant shifts in portfolio positions among major funds.
Bernstein SocGen Group recently upgraded Shopify to an Outperform rating, setting a price target of $160. The firm’s thesis centers on artificial intelligence tools reducing entry barriers for merchants, thereby broadening the addressable market. This view contrasts with other analysts who maintain more conservative targets, reflecting ongoing debate over the company’s valuation relative to its growth trajectory.
Institutional Flows Show Divergence
According to data tracked by Quiver Quantitative, 790 institutional investors added shares to their portfolios in the most recent quarter, while 1,064 decreased their positions. Invesco Ltd. made the largest move, adding 25.9 million shares, a 243.5% increase, for an estimated $2.96 billion. JPMorgan Chase & Co. also increased its stake by 15.2 million shares, valued at approximately $1.74 billion.
Conversely, Jennison Associates LLC reduced its holding by 9.45 million shares, a 58.0% decrease, worth about $1.08 billion. WCM Investment Management LLC nearly exited its position, selling 6.67 million shares, representing a 99.9% reduction. These opposing flows highlight the split opinion among large investors regarding Shopify’s long-term positioning in the e-commerce sector.
Analyst Targets Remain Split
Over the past six months, ten analysts have issued price targets for Shopify, with a median of $147.50. Tal Liani at BofA Securities set a target of $150.00 on July 7, 2026, while Paul Treiber at RBC Capital held a higher target of $170.00 as of May 6, 2026. Trevor Young at Barclays maintained the lowest target in the group at $126.00.
Growth Drivers Face Headwinds
While revenue growth remains robust, discussions among market observers note persistent challenges in enterprise segments and payments. Bernstein’s upgrade suggests that AI integration is a key differentiator, potentially offsetting these structural headwinds. However, technical analysts remain divided on near-term volatility, with some pointing to potential pullbacks despite strong fundamental performance.
