Green Energy Stocks Mixed as Sensex Flat and Nifty Rises

Kabra Extrusion led a volatile session for Indian renewable equities, gaining 8.56% while the Sensex closed flat. Sector performance was uneven, with some names facing selling pressure.
Indian renewable energy stocks displayed divergent price action on September 18, 2026, amid a flat close for the S&P BSE Sensex. The benchmark index dropped 0.03% to settle at 74,294.96 points, while the Nifty 50 index advanced 0.31% to reach 23,341.85 points. This session highlighted a lack of broad directional momentum in the broader market, forcing individual stock performance to drive sectoral trends.
According to data from solarquarter.com, Kabra Extrusion was the standout performer in the green energy segment. The stock posted the largest gain among the tracked renewable titles, reflecting strong investor interest in specific clean technology plays. Meanwhile, other major players in the sector saw more modest appreciation, indicating a selective rather than uniform buying pattern across the industry.
Kabra Extrusion Leads Sector Gains
Kabra Extrusion recorded an 8.56% increase on the BSE, closing at ₹689.00. On the NSE, the stock rose 7.77% to ₹681.90. This significant outperformance suggests targeted capital inflow into the company's business operations. Insolation Energy followed as the second strongest gainer, climbing 6.11% on the BSE to ₹92.90 and 4.86% on the NSE to ₹91.63.
Adani Green Energy also contributed to the sector's positive momentum, adding 3.75% on the BSE to finish at ₹1,313.70. On the NSE, the stock gained 3.31% to settle at ₹1,316.40. Exide Industries, a key player in battery manufacturing, rose 4.36% on the BSE to ₹436.35, while Borosil Renewables increased 2.54% to ₹461.00 on the same exchange.
Large Cap Energy Firms Rise
Beyond pure-play renewable firms, broader energy and infrastructure companies also posted gains. Larsen & Toubro increased 1.57% on the NSE to ₹3,896.50, while Indian Oil Corporation advanced 2.01% on the BSE to ₹136.80. JSW Energy added 1.33% to ₹517.80, and Olectra Greentech moved up 1.13% to ₹1,198.45.
Indian Energy Exchange rose 0.88% on the NSE to ₹114.40. NTPC Green Energy and Inox Wind also ended the day higher, with gains ranging between 0.80% and 1.15% across the exchanges. This broad-based participation in the energy sector suggests that investor sentiment remained positive for utility and infrastructure assets despite the flat overall market direction.
Selling Pressure Hits Select Names
Contrasting movements appeared in other renewable energy stocks. Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy declined 2.45% on the BSE to ₹175.00 and 1.94% on the NSE to ₹175.75, marking it as a notable sectoral decliner. Praj Industries fell 0.76% on the BSE to ₹314.90, while Reliance Industries slipped 0.55% on the BSE to ₹1,233.95.
Some stocks exhibited inconsistent pricing between the two major exchanges. Tata Power gained 1.76% on the BSE to ₹374.80 but declined 0.49% on the NSE to ₹367.20. Similarly, Juniper Green Energy rose 2.91% on the BSE to ₹265.00 while falling 1.76% on the NSE to ₹257.20. These discrepancies highlight the fragmented trading dynamics within the Indian green energy market.
