Manila Water Completes Shaw Pipeline Relocation Ahead of Subway Construction

Manila Water has initiated four utility relocation projects to support the Department of Transportation’s Metro Manila Subway construction. These works are concentrated around the Shaw, East Avenue, Anonas, and Ortigas stations. The company aims to complete three of these projects by the end of September or October 2026.

The relocations involve shifting water pipelines, sewer lines, and meter assemblies that intersect with the subway alignment. This infrastructure adjustment is necessary to prevent existing utilities from obstructing subway construction while maintaining the reliability of water and wastewater services in Metro Manila’s East Zone.

Shaw Station Pipeline Progress

At the intersection of Meralco Avenue and Shaw Boulevard in Pasig City, Manila Water is permanently relocating a 600-millimeter-diameter pipeline. The project involves installing a new 600-mm steel pipeline to accommodate the Shaw station construction. As of the first week of August, this specific relocation was 67 percent complete.

The company stated that clearing this utility is essential to remove infrastructure constraints from the construction zone. This action allows the subway project to proceed without interference from the water distribution network, ensuring continuous service for customers in the affected area.

Quezon City Sewer and Water Works

In Quezon City, Manila Water is relocating sewer and water facilities along V. Luna Road in Barangay Pinyahan for the East Avenue station. The scope of work includes pipe laying, installation of manholes and valve boxes, and the transfer of service connections. This project is targeted for completion in October 2026.

A separate sewer relocation is underway near the Anonas station, covering sections of A. Luna Street, F. Castillo Street, and J. Bugallon Street up to E. Evangelista Street in Barangay Bagumbayan. This work is scheduled for completion by the end of September 2026 to clear infrastructure from the construction footprint.

Ortigas Meter Assembly Relocation

In Pasig, the utility is relocating two meter set assemblies along Ortigas Avenue corner Meralco Avenue. These components are affected by the alignment of the Ortigas station. The company has set a target completion date for this work by the end of October 2026.

Manila Water is coordinating with the DOTr, contractors, and other stakeholders to minimize disruptions during these operations. The company emphasizes that these adjustments are critical for accommodating the national transport project while protecting the integrity of its water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
