Wireless charging requires a dedicated home pad
The system works by parking the vehicle over a ground-mounted pad, which transfers up to 11kW of power to a receiver unit located between the front wheels. The car automatically lowers its suspension to align with the pad, initiating the charge without manual intervention. This eliminates the need to plug in, similar to how a smartphone charges on a wireless pad.
However, the convenience comes at a high cost. The vehicle-mounted receiver costs £1,322, while the ground unit costs £5,355. This price does not include the installation of a 400-volt three-phase home electricity connection, which is required to power the system effectively. For many owners, the total outlay for the charging infrastructure will be significantly higher than the sticker price suggests.
Paint customization carries a steep premium
Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur is expanding the paint options for the 2027 model year from 13 standard hues to more than 100. This allows for highly specific color matches, catering to customers who want a unique appearance. The trade-off is a significant price increase for those who choose from the expanded menu.
According to Motoring Research, selecting a custom paint color adds £7,913 to the cost of the SUV. This is a notable expense for a cosmetic feature, but it reflects the luxury positioning of the brand. Customers must weigh the desire for a bespoke look against the substantial financial impact on the final purchase price.
New comfort features add to the cost
Beyond charging and paint, the updated Cayenne Electric includes power-operated doors that open fully with a simple pull or via the infotainment system. These features enhance the ease of use and the premium feel of the vehicle, aligning with the brand's focus on luxury.
A new 4D audio system combines music with a massage function, using air cushions and sound actuators in the seats.
