This development is significant because the last new class, the Death Knight, was released in 2022, meaning players have had no fundamental new mechanics to learn since then.
The Monk is represented by the character Chen Stormstout, a figure well-known to fans of the broader Warcraft universe. While the class is set to arrive in March 2027, the immediate focus is on the upcoming expansion, Reign of the Black Empire. This release is scheduled for October 10 and serves as the bridge to the new class, offering fresh content while the Monk is still in development.
A new mechanic for card merging
The Reign of the Black Empire expansion introduces a new keyword called assemble. This mechanic allows players to merge separate cards together to create powerful combinations. According to reports from GN technics/gaming, this feature is designed to encourage creative and chaotic strategies. It fits the established tone of Hearthstone, which often rewards players for finding unusual and effective ways to combine their resources.
The gap until the Monk arrives
There is a significant trade-off in this release schedule. The new expansion is available in late 2026, but the Monk class itself will not be playable until March 2027. During this period, the Evoker remains the only class from World of Warcraft that is not represented in the card game, aside from minor cosmetic differences.
