Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Tab S12 series on October 7. Leaked details show the new tablets will feature the Dimensity 9500 chip and larger batteries. These upgrades come with higher European prices.
The hardware changes are subtle. The Tab S12+ loses a rear camera, while the Ultra keeps its dual setup. Battery life varies between models, with the Ultra seeing a slight decrease in estimated usage time.
Chipset and camera changes
Both models use the Dimensity 9500 processor. This chip replaces older versions in previous generations. MediaTek did not release a 'plus' variant of this specific chip, so Samsung used the standard version.
The Tab S12+ now has a single 13MP rear camera. It previously had a dual-camera setup. The Tab S12 Ultra retains a 12MP wide and 8MP ultra-wide lens. This Ultra model also includes a 12MP front camera in a screen notch.
Battery life and physical design
The Ultra keeps its 11,600mAh battery and 5.1mm thickness. The Tab S12+ gains a 10,600mAh battery and is 5.3mm thick. Both support 45W charging speeds.
Rated battery life for the Ultra is 88 hours and 54 minutes. This is lower than the previous model's 94 hours. The Tab S12+ improves to 80 hours and 34 minutes, up from 73 hours. The more efficient chip likely explains this gain.
Higher costs in Europe
Leaked prices show the Tab S12 Ultra starts at €1,540. This is €200 more than last year's model. The Tab S12+ starts at €1,300 for Wi-Fi versions. Adding 5G costs an extra €150.
GSMArena reports these figures based on recent leaks. Doubling storage to 512GB adds €200 to the base price. The 5G version of the Ultra costs up to €1,890. Buyers should expect a significant price hike for the new series.
