Garmin CIRQA Users Report Lost Workout Data
Owners of the new Garmin band are facing a frustrating bug that erases their activity logs, though a simple workaround exists.
For many fitness enthusiasts, the frustration of completing a rigorous session only to find it missing from their records is a significant source of stress. This specific issue is currently affecting owners of the Garmin CIRQA, a sleek smart band positioned as a direct competitor to the Fitbit Air. Reports indicate that a specific sequence of actions leads to the complete deletion of workout data, leaving users without a record of their efforts.
The problem is not random but tied to how the device and its companion app interact. When a user initiates an activity directly on the wristband and then attempts to finish it through the Garmin Connect application, the system fails to save the session. Garmin has acknowledged these reports and is actively investigating the glitch to provide a permanent fix.
Specific interaction causes data loss
The technical trigger for this bug is a mismatch in how the start and end commands are processed. The error occurs specifically when an activity is started by pressing the physical button on the CIRQA band. If the user then switches to their smartphone and taps the "End" button in the Connect app's active prompt, the data is discarded. This suggests a synchronization failure between the hardware's local storage and the cloud-based app interface.
This issue is distinct from previous bugs reported by the community. In late August, users experienced problems with Bluetooth heart rate broadcasting, which allowed the tracker to share data with other devices. That particular flaw was resolved through a software update. The current data loss issue, however, remains unresolved, highlighting ongoing stability challenges for the new hardware.
A temporary fix is available
Until a permanent update is released, Garmin has provided a clear workaround for affected users. Instead of tapping "End" when the "Activity in Progress" prompt appears in the app, users should select "Resume." This action opens the full activity recording screen within the application.
From this screen, users can safely stop and save their workout. This method ensures that the data is properly committed to the user's history. While this extra step is a minor inconvenience, it prevents the loss of valuable health and performance metrics that users rely on for tracking progress.
