Garmin Pushes New Beta Update to Flagship Smartwatches

Garmin has started distributing a new beta software version to its flagship Fenix 8 smartwatches. This move comes shortly after the company stabilized its previous 23.xx software branch, indicating a rapid iteration cycle for its premium hardware.
The new Beta Version 23.32 is available for all models in the Fenix 8 family, including the expensive Fenix 8 Pro. While the update promises fixes for minor issues, it carries a significant caveat that may affect users who rely on specific outdoor tracking features.
Rapid updates follow recent stabilization
Garmin moved its 23.xx beta development to the stable branch recently, with System Software 23.31 currently rolling out to eligible devices. However, the company has already returned to its Beta Program with this new 23.32 update. Notably, the update reverts to the v23.xx cycle rather than advancing to a presumed v24.xx series, suggesting a focus on refining the current platform before introducing major new features.
According to GN auto tech/wearables: fitness tracker reports, the update is being pushed to Beta Program participants first. The Fenix 8 Pro, currently priced at $949 on Amazon, is included in this initial rollout, along with the standard Fenix 8 and other variants in the family.
Known crash bug remains in build
The primary trade-off for early adopters is a persistent bug. Garmin explicitly warns that Beta Version 23.32 ships with the same Indoor Climb recording bug that caused device crashes in older beta versions. This means users who frequently track indoor climbing activities may experience system instability until a fix is implemented in a future update.

It remains unclear whether this beta version will eventually become the next stable update for all users. Garmin describes the changes as addressing only 'minor issues' without providing specific details on what has been improved.
