American Arrested in Sonora for Alleged Cartel Logistics Role

Mexican authorities have detained a young American woman accused of serving as a logistics coordinator for the Sinaloa cartel. According to Mexico’s Security Cabinet, Yanet Dowden was arrested last Friday near the international bridge connecting Sonora and Arizona. The detention marks a significant escalation in recent cross-border enforcement actions targeting the supply chain of illicit firearms.

The arrest occurred during a joint operation involving the Mexican Navy and other federal agencies. Officials stated that Dowden was intercepted during routine surveillance patrols. The report further alleged that several firearms, including an AK-47, were found in her Jeep. According to these reports, Dowden is linked to the Los Mayos faction of the Sinaloa cartel.

The newspaper indicated that she may have held a mid-level position in the cartel’s hierarchy, maintaining a line of dependence with Ismael Zambada Sicairos, also known as Mayito Flaco. While these claims come from media reports rather than official charges, they suggest a structured role within the organization. The Arizona Department of Corrections did not respond to requests for comment regarding Dowden’s employment status.
