NGO Report Details Systematic Dismantling of Palestinian Life in West Bank
A new report from an Israeli human rights group outlines five interconnected mechanisms used to erode Palestinian collective existence in the occupied territories, warning that the situation has shifted from isolated incidents to a coordinated political project.
An Israeli human rights organization has published a detailed report arguing that the Israeli government is executing a systematic campaign to dismantle Palestinian collective life in the West Bank. According to B’Tselem, these actions are not isolated events but part of a broader strategy to establish permanent sovereignty over the territory.
The document, titled “Elimination Project,” asserts that since late 2022 and particularly following the conflict escalation in October 2023, the pace of these measures has accelerated. The group describes this as a single political project that reaches into every aspect of daily life for Palestinians in the region.
Five mechanisms drive displacement
Drawing from approximately 2,000 testimonies, the report identifies five interconnected tactics. These include the use of military forces and armed settler militias to impose violence and coercion. The organization states that between October 2023 and September 2026, at least 1,107 Palestinians were killed in attacks across the occupied West Bank.
Furthermore, the report indicates that at least 75 Palestinian communities have been forcibly displaced. It claims that armed settlers have taken control of over 1.07 million dunams of land, a figure representing roughly 18 percent of the West Bank. Additionally, about 33,000 individuals have been displaced from refugee camps in the northern part of the territory.
Economic restrictions and movement barriers
The analysis highlights severe restrictions on freedom of movement, with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs documenting 925 movement obstacles, including roadblocks and unmanned checkpoints, by the end of last year. These physical barriers are cited as key tools in limiting access to resources and economic opportunities.
According to the report, the economic situation has deteriorated significantly, with unemployment rates rising from 13.1 percent in 2022 to more than 31 percent in 2024. The organization argues that these economic pressures are part of a deliberate strategy to stifle the region’s development and independence.
Calls for international legal action
B’Tselem urges the international community to stop viewing these violations as isolated incidents and to end complicity in the actions described. The group calls for immediate global action to protect Palestinians and dismantle what it describes as a system of military rule and apartheid.
