A new Nexo report finds that 67% of affluent investors hold crypto, but average integration scores remain low due to operational hurdles.

Key points

  • Nexo's survey of 1,000 affluent investors found an average Crypto Integration Index score of 4.83.
  • Operational friction, including security and fees, is the biggest barrier to building wealth with crypto.
  • Argentina has the highest crypto ownership at 74%, while the U.S. leads in integration depth.

Operational friction is the primary barrier preventing high-net-worth investors from building wealth with crypto. Nexo’s new report identifies this issue as more significant than lack of conviction or risk aversion.

The study surveyed 1,000 affluent investors across the U.S., U.K., and Argentina. It reveals that while ownership is widespread, deep financial integration remains rare among these groups.

Low integration scores persist despite high ownership

Two-thirds of respondents already hold digital assets, yet the average Crypto Integration Index score is just 4.83. This low figure indicates that most investors hold small, short-horizon positions outside retirement planning.

Only 4.7% of surveyed investors achieve a score of 7 or higher. This group treats crypto as a core long-term asset that has replaced traditional holdings in their financial strategy.

Risk perception is no longer the main divider

Data from The Next Web sourced report shows risk perception barely separates wealthy builders from others. Instead, substitution of traditional assets and retirement planning integration define the difference.

Nexo analysts state that security, fees, and platform usability are the remaining hurdles. These operational factors prevent investors from moving beyond simple ownership into active wealth building strategies.

Regional differences in adoption depth

Argentina leads in ownership with 74% of investors holding crypto, but trails in integration depth with a score of 4.62. The U.S. has lower ownership at 62% but shows the deepest integration at 5.07.

Investors aged 35 to 44 show the highest integration levels, with 28% treating crypto as a retirement asset. Younger investors report high ownership but rarely hold positions for a decade or more.
