Drake Bulldogs Fall to Iowa in Coralville Clash

Drake University’s volleyball squad arrived in Coralville, Iowa, ready to test their mettle against the in-state Hawkeyes. Aniyah Davis set the tone early, her solo block shattering the silence and propelling the Bulldogs into a 3-0 lead. The momentum shifted instantly, however, as Iowa answered with a three-point run that established a rhythmic, back-and-forth battle throughout the opening frame.
The first set remained tight until the media timeout, where Iowa held a narrow 15-14 advantage. After the break, the Hawkeyes found their stride, extending their lead to 21-16. Drake rallied with a late surge, cutting the deficit to 23-21, but Iowa closed the frame with two decisive points. The second set mirrored this pattern, with Lisa Melenciano driving the attack for Drake while Iowa’s defense tightened. Despite a brief revival sparked by Bliss Beck, the Hawkeyes secured the set 25-21, maintaining their grip on the match.
