PowerTransitions expands its New York footprint with the acquisition of the 1,242 MW Roseton facility, aiming to develop a multi-use energy campus.

PowerTransitions has expanded its generation portfolio in New York by acquiring the 1,242 MW Roseton Generating Facility in Newburgh. The purchase of the dual-fuel, natural gas-fired plant from a subsidiary of Castleton Commodities International increases the company’s total operating capacity to 1.8 GW across eight power stations.

Roseton has supplied electricity to the New York Independent System Operator Zone G since 1974. The asset provides PowerTransitions with a major operating facility in the Hudson Valley, featuring existing grid connections and infrastructure that the company identifies as suitable for future redevelopment.

Strategic Focus on Energy Campus Development

The company intends to evaluate Roseton as a multi-use energy campus. This strategy includes potential new energy storage and additional generation capacity designed to support grid reliability as regional electricity demand grows. The site’s existing infrastructure is central to this plan, offering a foundation for scaling up operations without starting from scratch.

Sean Long, Co-Founder and CEO of PowerTransitions, stated that the plant is one of the largest and well-maintained operating assets in the Hudson Valley. He emphasized that the existing grid connections present an opportunity to develop a multi-use energy campus at scale to support sub-regional reliability. Long also noted the company’s intention to work with the current workforce and surrounding communities during the transition.

Rapid Portfolio Expansion in New York

This acquisition follows the July purchase of five New York power plants totaling 323 MW. Together, these transactions have rapidly expanded PowerTransitions’ presence in the local power market. The company specializes in acquiring operating legacy power assets and redeveloping them into energy campuses featuring generation, storage, and powered land for large energy users.

Partners Group Acquisition and Platform Growth

The Roseton deal is the latest expansion of PowerTransitions’ platform since Partners Group acquired the company in 2025. This move aligns with the firm’s focus on redeveloping legacy facilities. By integrating Roseton into its portfolio, PowerTransitions strengthens its position in the New York market, leveraging the plant’s long operational history and robust infrastructure to support future energy demands.
