Meta Expands Eagle Mountain Data Center Campus with New Community Commitments
Meta is building three new structures at its Utah facility, bringing significant construction jobs and direct financial support to local schools and infrastructure.
Meta has announced the construction of three new data center buildings, an administration office, and a warehouse at its Eagle Mountain campus in Utah. This expansion, which follows a city council approval in late 2025, will add to the facility that has grown to over 500 acres since opening in 2018.
Alongside the physical construction, the company is making substantial financial commitments to the local community. These include millions of dollars directed toward school districts and local infrastructure, aiming to support the growing population and educational needs of the area.
New construction creates local jobs
The project is expected to generate approximately 1,200 construction jobs at peak activity. Once completed, the expanded facility will support more than 300 permanent operations roles. City officials describe these as stable positions for local residents, reinforcing the town's economic base.
This growth is part of a broader trend of data center expansion in the region. While such facilities provide employment, they also require significant resources for cooling and power, leading to close scrutiny of their environmental and logistical impacts on the surrounding community.
Funding targets school district needs
Meta is providing $600,000 to the Lake Mountain School District for land acquisition, specifically to secure a site for a new elementary school. Additionally, the company is committing $1.5 million to the district's education foundation, a payment triggered by the start of vertical construction.
The district is preparing to absorb students from the dissolving Alpine School District in 2027. These funds are intended to help cover the costs of new facilities and student support programs. Meta has also pledged an ongoing annual contribution of $50,000 to the foundation, ensuring continued financial support beyond the initial construction phase.
Water rights and local infrastructure
A key part of the approval process involved an amendment to the water agreement. Meta will purchase an additional 125 acre-feet of water, increasing its total allocation from 500 to 625 acre-feet. This resource is critical for cooling the servers and maintaining the facility's operations in the arid climate.
The company has also contributed nearly $5 million to the city’s affordable housing fund and over $6.2 million to local schools and organizations since its arrival. These contributions are part of the agreement that allows the expansion to proceed, balancing corporate growth with community development.
