Gentler Streak and The Outsiders now let users query Siri for health stats without opening the apps, leveraging new iOS 27 capabilities.

Two popular exercise-tracking apps have released updates that integrate deeply with the new Siri AI features in iOS 27. The changes allow users to retrieve health and fitness data directly through voice commands, removing the need to manually open the applications first. This shift aims to make accessing daily training metrics and recovery data more seamless for active users.

According to reporting from 9to5Mac, the updates also introduce onscreen awareness capabilities. This feature enables Siri to interpret what is currently displayed on the user's screen, providing context about workout summaries or health charts. Additionally, the apps now adapt their layouts to fit various screen sizes, improving compatibility with newer iPhone models and iPad window management.

Voice commands replace manual app navigation

The primary benefit of this update is the ability to ask Siri for specific health information without leaving the current task. Users can request details about their training readiness, daily body metrics, or sleep data simply by speaking. For this to work, the user must include the name of the specific app in their voice prompt. This functionality is powered by new App Intents capabilities introduced in the latest operating system version.

While convenient, this feature requires precise phrasing. If a user asks a generic question without specifying the app, Siri may not return the correct data. The integration focuses on providing quick access to key statistics, such as today’s workouts or last night’s sleep quality, rather than deep-dive analysis which still requires opening the app interface.

Onscreen awareness adds contextual guidance

Beyond simple data retrieval, the updates allow Siri to act as a guide while the user is already inside the app. By analyzing what is on the screen, the assistant can explain complex workout summaries or clarify health charts that might be confusing. This turns Siri into an interactive help tool that can provide immediate explanations based on the visual context of the user's training data.

There is a trade-off in this approach. Onscreen awareness relies on the system correctly interpreting the visual elements of the app. If the interface changes or the user is viewing a non-standard view, the assistant's ability to provide accurate context may be limited. However, for standard views like workout logs and metric dashboards, the system is designed to offer clear, relevant explanations.

Visual updates and layout adjustments

The apps also receive visual refreshes to align with the new design language of iOS 27. This includes updated app icons and interface elements that adopt a translucent aesthetic. Furthermore, the apps now automatically adjust their layouts to fit any screen size or position. This improvement ensures better performance on devices with split-screen capabilities and various iPad window configurations.

Another new feature is an AI-powered workout title suggestion tool that runs on the device. It offers more descriptive names for recorded workouts, though users retain the option to choose their own titles. This local processing ensures that user data remains private, as the suggestions are generated without sending information to external servers.
