VideoLabs Buys 332 Ericsson Patents for Cloud Security

VideoLabs has acquired a substantial network of intellectual property from Ericsson, significantly expanding its reach into the core infrastructure of modern cloud computing and cybersecurity.
VideoLabs, Inc. has completed the acquisition of 332 global patent assets from Ericsson. This move significantly expands the company’s intellectual property licensing business into the critical domains of network infrastructure, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. The patents are now held by a newly formed subsidiary called Certitude Networks, LLC. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the strategic intent is clear: to capture value from the technologies that power large-scale data centers and enterprise networks.
The portfolio consists of 89 patent families developed over more than two decades of research at Ericsson. These inventions cover the industry’s shift from fixed-function hardware to software-defined, virtualized, and cloud-native infrastructure. By acquiring these rights, VideoLabs positions itself to license essential technologies to hyperscalers, networking companies, and security providers, broadening its previous focus on video and image processing patents.
Core Infrastructure Technologies
The acquired patents address fundamental components of modern cloud environments. Key areas include software-defined networking, which separates network control from underlying hardware, and network function virtualization, allowing specialized tasks to run as software rather than on dedicated appliances. The portfolio also covers cloud orchestration, container virtualization, and storage provisioning.
