MSI Enters Korean Market with Portable EV Charger

MSI has introduced its first electric vehicle charging device in Korea, aiming to simplify home charging with a plug-and-play design that eliminates the need for complex installation work.

MSI Korea officially released the MSI EZgo on the 14th, marking the company's entry into the domestic electric vehicle supply equipment market. The device is designed to connect directly to standard household power outlets, removing the barrier of professional installation that often accompanies dedicated home chargers. By leveraging the company's existing hardware engineering capabilities, MSI aims to offer a more accessible charging solution for EV owners who may not have access to public charging stations.

The charger offers two levels of output depending on the plug type used. It can deliver up to 3.5 kW with a standard Type E or F plug and up to 7 kW when connected via a CEE industrial plug. To support different usage scenarios, the product comes with a dedicated carrying case for portability and a mounting kit for permanent home installation. This flexibility allows users to charge in various locations, from home garages to office parking lots, without relying on fixed infrastructure.

Digital Monitoring and App Integration

Users can manage the charging process through a 1.8-inch LCD screen on the unit itself, which displays voltage, charging speed, and temperature readings. Multi-color LED indicators provide at-a-glance status updates. For more detailed control, the device connects via Bluetooth to the MSI aConnect App. This application allows users to monitor real-time charging data, receive notifications, and schedule charging times to optimize energy usage. Safety Standards and Durability Testing

The device includes several automatic safety mechanisms to protect the vehicle and the building's electrical system. The cable is rated for 600V and is designed to be heat-resistant. The unit has achieved an IP66 rating for waterproof and dustproof protection, as well as IK08 impact resistance. Additionally, it has undergone durability testing to withstand a 2-ton vehicle crushing force, ensuring it can endure accidental contact in parking areas.

Market Entry and Regulatory Compliance

To operate in South Korea, the MSI EZgo has obtained the KC62752 safety certification, a mandatory standard for electrical products in the region. The charger uses connectors certified under UL817 and IEC 62196 standards, ensuring compatibility with various EV models. Elsa, Head of the EVSE Business Division at MSI Global Headquarters, stated that the product combines hardware expertise with the safety and mobility users value. The device will be distributed through designated online sales channels in Korea, positioning MSI as a new player in the eco-friendly energy infrastructure sector.
