Nissan has officially returned to Europe’s budget car market with the revival of the Pixo, now an all-electric city vehicle. Priced to start under $25,000, the model targets drivers seeking an affordable entry point into electric mobility without compromising on modern connectivity or safety features.
As reported by Electrek, this new model is developed in partnership with Renault and shares its fundamental structure with the Renault Twingo. It is designed specifically for urban environments in Europe, where compact dimensions and low running costs are prioritized over long-distance travel capabilities.
Battery technology defines the range
The vehicle utilizes a 27.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, marking the first time Nissan has used this chemistry in a European model. This setup provides a WLTP range of up to 259 km, which is sufficient for daily commutes and local errands but limits the car’s utility for longer road trips.
Charging speed is adequate for urban use, with a 50 kW DC fast charger capable of topping the battery from 15% to 80% in approximately 28 minutes. While LFP batteries are generally more durable and cost-effective than alternatives, the lower peak power output restricts how quickly the car can be recharged on the go.
Compact size with modern tech
Measuring under 3.8 meters in length, the Pixo is nearly identical in footprint to the Hyundai Inster and Renault Twingo. Despite its entry-level price, it includes advanced driver assistance systems such as automated emergency braking and lane-keeping assist, along with Google built-in services for navigation and charging integration.
European focus and production
The car will be manufactured at Renault’s plant in Slovenia, reinforcing the cross-brand collaboration between the two manufacturers. It is positioned below the Micra in Nissan’s European lineup, directly competing with other low-cost electric options from brands like BYD and Leapmotor.
Notably, the Pixo is not planned for the US market, as it was developed specifically to meet European regulatory and dimensional standards. Market-specific prices are expected in December, with estimates suggesting a starting price under €20,000 before any government subsidies.
