The company positions the vehicle as an affordable entry point into its electric lineup, with prices starting at 27,995 euros. This move signals a strategic shift to make electric mobility accessible to a wider audience rather than just a niche market.
The ID. Cross is designed to compete directly with established rivals like Tesla and Chinese manufacturers such as BYD. According to reports from VOI.ID, the model serves as the electric equivalent of the gasoline-powered T-Cross, aiming to capture the compact SUV segment. The production start follows significant investments by Volkswagen to upgrade the Navarra facility for higher electric vehicle output.
Battery options and charging speeds
The vehicle offers two distinct battery configurations to balance cost and performance. The base model features a 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, while the higher-spec version uses a 52 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt pack. The larger battery extends the maximum driving range to 427 kilometers under the WLTP test standard.
Charging capabilities vary slightly between the two battery types. The smaller 37 kWh pack supports DC fast charging up to 90 kW, allowing a charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 23 minutes. The 52 kWh battery offers a slightly higher peak charging rate of 105 kW, with a similar 24-minute duration for the same charge range. This consistency in charging time helps mitigate the trade-off of choosing the smaller, cheaper battery.
Performance variants and platform details
Built on the MEB+ platform, the ID. Cross shares its foundation with the ID. Polo. Three power outputs are available across the trim levels, ranging from 85 kW to 155 kW. The entry-level Trend variant pairs the 85 kW motor with the smaller battery, while the Life and Style trims offer a standard 99 kW motor.
Customers seeking more power can select the 155 kW motor, which is exclusively paired with the 52 kWh battery. This configuration provides the highest acceleration and range figures in the lineup. The structural design includes a flat floor, which maximizes interior utility despite the compact exterior dimensions comparable to the T-Cross.
Interior features and market pricing
The cabin features a modern digital setup with a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch central display. A unique retro display mode allows drivers to switch to a classic interface inspired by the first-generation Golf. Storage capacity is a practical advantage, offering 475 liters of trunk space, which is 20 liters more than the internal combustion T-Cross.
In the German market, the ID. Cross sits between the T-Cross and the larger Tiguan.
