Electric vehicle owners on the southeast side of San Antonio no longer need to drive to other parts of the city to recharge their cars quickly. A new fast-charging station has opened at 418 Fair Avenue, marking the first time this area has had access to high-speed charging infrastructure. This addition aims to close a significant gap in the local network, which previously left drivers in this sector without convenient options for rapid refueling.

The station was installed by Energize-N-Go, a company focused on expanding charging access across the San Antonio region. Company CEO Sal Flores noted that the lack of local facilities meant residents had to travel considerable distances to find a fast charger. By bringing this capability directly to the community, the company hopes to make electric vehicle ownership more practical and less burdensome for local residents who were previously underserved.

Addressing Regional Infrastructure Gaps

Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert highlighted the strategic importance of this development for the area’s growth. He described the station as a step toward building a future where electric vehicles play a central role in the local economy and daily life. The presence of such infrastructure is often cited as a key factor in encouraging more people to switch from traditional gasoline vehicles to electric ones.

The new facility is designed to accommodate a wide range of vehicles, not just those from a single manufacturer. During the opening event, demonstrations showed that the chargers work with both Tesla models and other electric cars. This opening is part of a broader effort by Energize-N-Go to increase the density of fast-charging stations throughout the San Antonio area. Earlier this year, the company opened a similar facility in Windcrest. These expansions are intended to create a more robust network that reduces range anxiety for drivers and supports the growing number of electric vehicles on the road.

While fast charging is a significant upgrade over standard home chargers, it is not a cure-all for electric vehicle inconvenience. Drivers still need to plan their stops, and the availability of such stations in suburban or underserved areas can vary.
