Two days of interactive zones and live performances turn a transit hub into a temporary gaming district, blending office traffic with fan culture.

Pangyo Station Plaza has been temporarily reimagined as a center for interactive entertainment during the 2026 GXG festival. The event, running through September 12, occupies the area around the station and the nearby Tech1 Tower. It is designed to integrate directly into the daily flow of the neighborhood, particularly during the evening commute.

According to reporting by GN technics/gaming, the festival opened with a performance by the duo Dynamic Duo at 6:00 PM on Friday. The stage is positioned at Exit 1, a location that naturally catches the attention of office workers leaving work. This placement turns a routine transit moment into a public viewing experience, bridging the gap between local residents and gaming enthusiasts.

Interactive Zones Replace Standard Plaza Layout

The North Plaza has been divided into distinct activity areas, including a Play Lounge and a Campus Arcade. Visitors can engage with console games, board games, and costume experiences. The trade-off for this setup is that the open space usually reserved for transit or casual walking is now filled with structured activities and equipment. This creates a busier environment that prioritizes engagement over simple passage.

Near the main stage, an exhibition displays physical props and outfits from the game Lost Ark. These items are static displays rather than playable units. Meanwhile, the Central Plaza hosts a social contribution exhibition for the gaming industry. These sections offer a mix of passive viewing and active participation, catering to different visitor preferences.

Indie Games and Student Projects Featured

Inside Tech1 Tower, the 2026 Indiecraft exhibition provides hands-on access to independent video games. This offers a contrast to the large-scale commercial titles often highlighted in such festivals. Additionally, the Neowiz building hosts graduation works from Gyeonggi Game Meister High School students. This inclusion highlights the educational pipeline within the local gaming community, showing how new talent is being developed.

The Illustar Fest in the North Plaza adds a fan creation market and stage programs. This section focuses on community-generated content rather than official corporate products. The variety of these zones means that the festival caters to a broad audience, from industry professionals to casual players and students.

Second Day Adds Award Ceremonies

On Saturday, the hands-on activities and exhibitions remain available. The schedule shifts slightly to include the AI GSDC Awards and the GXG Gala Concert. These formal events add a layer of industry recognition to the casual atmosphere of the plaza. The festival maintains its two-day structure, ensuring that the transformation of the public space is extended rather than rushed.
