Roblox Enables Standalone Game Publishing Across Devices

Roblox is moving beyond its platform silos, allowing developers to release games as independent apps on mobile, PC, and consoles.
Roblox is fundamentally changing how its developers distribute their work. The company has announced that creators will soon be able to publish their games as standalone applications across mobile, PC, and console platforms. This shift moves games out of the Roblox client and into the broader ecosystem of third-party app stores, potentially reaching audiences who do not currently use the platform.
This initiative, known as Roblox Everywhere, was revealed at the recent Roblox Developers Conference. The company stated that it will continue to power the underlying technology and services, effectively acting as the engine behind these independent titles. However, the rollout is not immediate for everyone. A representative told PC Gamer that the program will begin with a select group of developers and storefronts for testing purposes before wider availability.
Browser Access and Offline Play
In addition to standalone apps, Roblox is lowering the barrier to entry for players. By the end of 2026, users will be able to join games directly through a web browser without installing an app. This feature will launch first on Chrome, with support for other browsers to follow. This change aims to make accessing games as simple as visiting a website, removing the friction of downloads.
The company is also addressing connectivity limitations. Creators will soon have the option to enable offline solo play in their titles. This feature is scheduled to enter early access before its full release by mid-2027. This addition is significant for users in areas with unstable internet connections or those who prefer to play without an active server connection.
Financial Tools for Creators
Roblox is also updating how developers get paid. The introduction of Roblox Wallet and Roblox Card is designed to give creators faster and more flexible access to their earnings. Independent creators aged 18 and older in the US can expect to receive daily payments in their local currency starting this December. This allows for more immediate financial liquidity compared to previous payout schedules.
In 2027, Roblox plans to release a physical card that allows creators to spend their available balance directly at merchants where it is accepted. This feature is intended to provide a seamless way to use platform earnings in the real world, bridging the gap between digital currency and tangible spending.
Technical Updates and Trade-offs
The Roblox engine is receiving several updates to support more complex game designs. These include an orthographic camera, animated image containers, and direct sprite-sheet imports. An AI creation layer will also be added to the cloud operating system. While these tools offer new capabilities, they also increase the complexity of the development environment, requiring creators to adapt to new workflows.
Despite these expansions, the company faces financial headwinds. Recent reports from GN technics/gaming (en-US) highlight a 70% decline in shares following a drop in monetization among younger users. The company attributes this to changes in its recommendation algorithm, which prioritizes long-term retention over immediate revenue. This creates a trade-off where highly engaging games get more visibility, but short-term earnings may suffer.
