The machines had been sitting unused since the peak of the 2020 crypto boom, but the hardware appears to have survived the long period of storage with surprisingly minor damage.
According to Tom's Hardware, the discovery represents a significant amount of computing power. While the cards show signs of age, such as silicone bleeding from degraded thermal pads, they are likely salvageable with a thorough cleaning and replacement of thermal materials. This find highlights the potential value of older, high-performance components in the current market.
Assessing the physical condition
The graphics cards exhibit minor silicone bleeding, a common issue where thermal pads break down and release oil over time. This cosmetic flaw does not necessarily indicate internal failure. The rest of the rig, including the motherboard, power supply, and storage drives, also appears undamaged. Users on the forum noted that a cleanup with isopropyl alcohol and new thermal paste should restore the cards to functional condition.
