Zhuhai Opens First Large-Scale AI Robot Theme Park

A new theme park in southern China has launched with over 300 robots, marking a significant shift from experimental tech demos to commercial entertainment.
Chimelong Spaceship Park in Hengqin, Zhuhai, officially opened on Sunday as the first large-scale theme park dedicated to embodied artificial intelligence. The venue, a joint venture between robotics firm AgiBot and tourism giant Chimelong Group, deployed more than 300 robots on opening day. This marks a departure from previous industry efforts, which typically involved small-scale pilots that struggled to maintain consistent commercial operations.
The park integrates these machines into seven distinct scenarios, ranging from hotel services and retail assistance to aerial acrobatics. By embedding AI agents directly into the visitor experience, the project aims to transform how technology interacts with the public. The scale of deployment is the defining feature, as it moves beyond isolated demonstrations to a sustained, operational environment.
Robots move from labs to leisure
Previously, robots at overseas theme parks were limited to localized pilots that often failed to achieve regular commercial viability. The new facility in Guangdong Province claims to solve this by utilizing a complete industrial system and mature infrastructure. This approach allows for a continuous flow of interaction points, ensuring that the technology remains a constant presence rather than a fleeting novelty.
Visitors can encounter robots performing tea ceremonies, guiding tours, and participating in sports competitions. The park leverages the fact that its host location already attracts over ten million visitors annually, providing a massive real-world testing ground. This high-volume environment offers a practical advantage for refining how human-robot interactions work in a crowded, dynamic space.
Technical integration drives the experience
The operational backbone of the park relies on 5G-A-enabled embodied AI, a technology described as an industry first in this context. This infrastructure supports the coordination of hundreds of machines simultaneously, allowing for complex performances like human-robot joint dances. The integration of advanced connectivity ensures that the robots can react to their surroundings and each other with minimal latency.
AgiBot, the robotics provider, states that these same models recently topped medal standings at the World Humanoid Robot Games. By bringing these high-performing units into a public setting, the park highlights the gap between competitive robotics and consumer-facing applications. The goal is to demonstrate that the precision required for competition can be translated into reliable, everyday services.
The trade-offs of early adoption
While the scale is unprecedented, the project relies heavily on the specific advantages of the Chinese market. Chimelong notes that the combination of a vast cultural tourism sector and new infrastructure provides a first-mover edge. However, this also means the model may not be easily replicable in regions lacking similar industrial support or visitor density.
