Epic Pauses Tech Development for Six Weeks to Boost Security

Epic Systems has paused much of its technology development to focus on cybersecurity. CEO Judy Faulkner made this announcement during Modern Healthcare's Leadership Summit on Tuesday. The company aims to strengthen its defenses against growing digital threats while keeping its product roadmap on schedule.
Six-week security push
Faulkner said the security work will take another six weeks. Product development will continue but at a slower pace. An Epic spokesperson told Fierce Healthcare that the overall development roadmap has not changed. It remains the same as presented at the August 2026 Users Group Meeting.
The company is participating in Project Glasswing. This is an AI cybersecurity initiative led by Anthropic. It brings together major tech companies and critical infrastructure organizations. Epic is using AI tools to stay ahead of threats across all industries.
AI models find hidden flaws
Project Glasswing uses Anthropic's unreleased Claude Mythos model. Partner organizations use it to find software vulnerabilities. This helps them strengthen defensive security. Anthropic announced 50 initial partners in April and expanded the group in June.
Stirling Martin, Epic's chief security officer, explained the benefits. He noted that AI models can see issues expert developers miss. The models connect unrelated problems into novel attack paths. These are nuanced issues in large codebases, not obvious errors.
Rapid patches and new tools
Martin warned health systems to expect more urgent security fixes. He said speed is crucial in the current security landscape. Critical security patches have surged across the tech sector this spring and summer. Epic is moving fast to maintain stable infrastructure.
Despite the security focus, Epic continues rapid progress in other areas. This includes expanded AI capabilities and interoperability features. A major highlight is the rollout of Agent Factory. This platform allows users to build and monitor AI agents for various workflows.
